Click to expand. They all work for me here. Clicking an audio link (in Safari) downloads a tiny file ending in.ram, and then the RealPlayer app starts up, opens that file and a bit later starts playing. Pretty similar with video links, except the tiny downloaded file is a bit bigger.

Perhaps you haven't got the latest RealPlayer app. Real do try to hide links to the free one on their website, but it.is. there. You also have to give them your email address, which is irritating but it seems par for the course with Real. Cheers, Chris. Click to expand.Which version do you already have? The Beeb radio player particularly seems to need the latest, which would be RealPlayer 6 (I think) in OS9, and RealOne Player in OS 10.
The Real site does seem to offer only the paid version, but look carefully and you will see the free version is available for download. As I'm on dialup right now, it's not quite as easy as usual to pop across to the site to check, but I've been there and downloaded both OS10 and Classic versions quite recently, so they are there. And they do work with the BBC Radio Player. Small probably inapplicable warning; from what I found, the latest Realplayer doesn't seem to work in OS 8.1, but seems happy in 8.6. Click to expand. You have to tell it that the helper application for.ram files is RealOne player- using its plugin. Normally, installing RealOne Player does this automagically. Apple have throroughly broken the method of selecting helpers in 10; in 10.2.6 you do it through Internet Explorer, even to set them for Safari.
In 10.3 I understand that it's even more broken and the best thing is to download an app called Misfox, which will allow you to set helper apps. Looking at my MisFox prefs, which seem to work in 10.2.6. Under Protocol Helper, rtsp should be set to RealOne Player.

In File Mappings, RealAudio Clip audio/vnd.rn-realaudio.ra, RealAudio Clip audio/x-realaudio.ra, RealPlayer Metafile audio/x-pn-realaudio.ram and RealPlayer Plugin audio/x-pn-realaudio-plugin.rpm should all be set to RealOne Player. You shouldn't have to go through this shit- none of us should. I reckon its the most broken part of OS10 so far.
