The Diamond VC500 USB 2.0 Video & Audio Capture Device For Mac works with the included software to capture and transfer video and audio (or still images) from various devices to a Mac, where the data can be recorded and stored. You can record in NTSC or PAL formats. The USB end of the device connects into the Mac; the other end features Composite video and audio and S-Video connectors which can be hooked up to almost all types of video devices, including TVs, cameras, DVDs, video game consoles, and VCRs.

The included software pulls up on the Mac and lets you know when to begin capture, at which point you would just need to press a button on the capture device and whatever's playing on the connected video device will be captured and transferred to the Mac. The data gets captured as it's being played. Once you've got it on the Mac, you can burn to a DVD or publish to YouTube directly from the software, or you can export to an editing system. The software is called VideoGlide and alternative to video and audio it can be set up to capture still images. Rated 5 out of 5 by GFC sound techie from Excellent product for VCR & 8mm to CDs I bought this product for transferring my old VHS and 8mm tapes to DVD using my Mac. I was happy that I found this Mac specific product.

The cost, as well as the overall ratings, is what influenced my decision. So far it has been very easy to use and the setup went without a hitch. One problem I did encounter was with the enclosed software CD.

Bottom line - it would not install and kept giving me an error during the installation process. Before calling customer service I found the downloadable version on the manufacturers website and installed the software without any problems. If you own a Mac and want a cost effective method to transfer your old movies to DVD you won't be sorry with this.

I bought this to try and calm down my ever growing cassette tapes from my VHS Camcorder, VHS-C Camcorder and my Mini DV Camcorder. I was able to convert all tapes to digital 480p with ease. No more buying cassettes I have been busy uploading to YouTube and Facebook to share with everyone.

I am so thankful for a device that works this easy. Just installed the software, plugged in the Capture Device and then plugged that into the Camcorder and the pressed play on that and record on my Mac. I then converted the.mov clips into.mp4 clips thru iMovie. This capture device works as expected and as stated.
